Dear Reader,

I believe that the most efficient therapy and action you can take is to get out of your comfort zone to explore yourself and the world from other perspectives. Being a doer rather than a dreamer my lifestyle is traveling.  This experience does not only widen and refreshes the mind by showing the magnitude, the power, the strength of Terra and beauty of difference. It also assists in discovering new shades and places as a part of the whole.

Today, I would like to share one of my favorite places on Earth, which is loved by celebrities and still unknown to many. There are several reasons for that and the first one starts with the name. It was confusing to me, when I came here 10 years ago for the first time, how to actually call the place due to the multiple name versions. According to Wikipedia Saint Barthélemy officially the Territorial collectivity of Saint-Barthélemy (French: Collectivité territoriale de Saint-Barthélemy), called Ouanalao by the native people, is an overseas collectivity of France in the West Indies.   The island’s name often abbreviated to St-Barth in French for locals, and St. Barths or St. Barts for English speakers and the last is the most comfortable version for me.

A bit of history:

Saint Barthélemy was for many years a French commune forming part of Guadeloupe, which is an overseas region and department of France. In 2003, the island voted in favor of secession from Guadeloupe in order to form a separate overseas collectivity (COM) of France. The collectivity is one of four territories among the Leeward Islands in the northeastern Caribbean that comprise the French West Indies, along with Saint Martin, Guadeloupe (200 kilometers (120 miles) southeast), and Martinique. It is the only Caribbean island that was a Swedish colony for any significant length of time; Guadeloupe was under Swedish rule only briefly at the end of the Napoleonic Wars. Symbolism from the Swedish national arms, the Three Crowns, still appears in the island’s coat of arms.

Geography:

Saint Barts is a volcanic island fully encircled by shallow reefs. It has an area of 25 square kilometers (9.7 square miles) and a population of 9,625 (January 2015 estimate). Its capital is Gustavia, which also contains the main harbor to the island.

The island lies about 35 kilometers (22 miles) southeast of St. Martin and north of St. Kitts. Puerto Rico is 240 kilometers (150 miles) to the west in the Greater Antilles.  

Getting to the tropical paradise retreat needs detailed planning due to the absence of the direct flights unless you are coming by private jet or yacht. From New York one can travel by Jet Blue to St. Martin and from Paris – to St. Martin. I personally travel through Puerto Rico due to the visa convenience and it is just one flight from there.

Location :

I would say that the energy of the exclusiveness of the island is rather simple and natural so-called “lassez-fare” Caribbean lifestyle. The language, cuisine, and culture, however, are distinctly French. Moreover, this amazing small and cozy place has EVERYTHING one would ever wish to have for natural and comfortable escape. What I personally love about St. Barts?

Heaven-like nature, crystal blue-green water and white sand clean with well-maintained beaches.

The same time zone as New York makes it easy to adopt. Amazing climate, always fresh wind calms the body and brings a pleasant feel.

Along with enjoying picturesque nature, one has everything the soul, mind, and body demands. Like a great range of shopping facilities including luxury, nigh life & great events, amazing restaurants, beaches, and hotels!

I believe that St. Barts is definitely one of the best places on Earth you want to be, I come here at least once a year, sometimes up to 3 times for 1-2 weeks. I would highly recommend you to experience this drop of Heaven!
