London in bloom: RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2019 highlights

Dear Reader,

The last month of the spring is cherished and awaited for many due to several reasons. May is rich in the color spectrum, loved for comfortable and warm temperature, short nights and long days, and blooming flowers, trees and plants. That combination awakens and inspires us for multiple outdoor activities, nature exploration, gardening, and other scenery related doings. Moreover, if you are in London at this moment or deciding where to travel next week, I would highly suggest coming to Chelsea, West London, for the next week May 21st – May 25th. I believe, it is one of the world’s beautiful places, indeed, to be at with the family, friends or/and alone. Chelsea is looking prettier than ever right now. Other than visiting the world’s leading horticultural event, the Chelsea Flower Show, you should definitely take time to tour Chelsea and its surrounding areas for more floral delights.

Formally known as the ‘Great Spring Show’or also known as Chelsea in Bloom held since 1912 for 5 days in May- it is a garden show that is produced by Cadogan in association with the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), and sees breathtaking floral displays from retailers, restaurants and hotels throughout the duration of the Chelsea Flower Show. Today, it is definitely the most famous flower and landscape gardens show in the United States and, perhaps, in the world).

This year, the Chelsea Flower Show is in great demand! Mostly all tickets have been sold in advance. This is due to the gigantic preparation and involvement of Kate Middleton in garden design debut. Although, the world’s most prestigious flower show was always supported by the Royal family and Queen Elizabeth the II is the key guest of all the shows. This year the new offspring of the royal family as Duchess of Cambridge and co-designers’- landscape architects Andrée Davies and Adam White of Davies White will unveil their cooperation of highly-anticipated garden. The idea of the design was inspired by Duchess childhood memories and triggered by the natural world. The purpose of designing and building the garden was ‘to highlight how being active in nature can positively impact our physical and mental health. The garden has a natural woodland feel and contains lots of unique design features to inspire families to get outside and explore nature together. This, true and beautiful idea of unity with nature is highly supported by the UK population and I can just add that I have never seen so many people here before.

Highlights to the Chelsea Flower Show include the avant-garde show gardens designed by leading names with Floral Marquee at the centerpiece. The Show also features smaller gardens such as the Artisan and Urban Gardens. Nature is the key element and sustainability is the core value of any design. You can pick 3-5 or all the shows to see:

In THE GREAT PAVILION

  • The Great Pavilion showcases thousands of immaculate plant varieties from around the world
  • David Austin Roses will unveil two new English Rose varieties at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show

My 10 days detox in Bad Ems! The best place in Europe to balance your body & spirit.

Dear Reader,

Hoping to overcome sleep disorder, traveling stress and return to my “before” winter weight I ventured to the authentic Ayurveda medical and spa center in Germany. Maharishi Ayurveda Health Centre is located in Bad Ems. It is highly respectable and the only recognized best Ayurveda Clinic in Europe. Being “imperfect” human beings, my friend and I have decided to try a minimum of 10 days detox program.

You can get to Bad Ems either flying to Cologne or Frankfurt am Mein and from those cities, it will take you about an hour drive to get to the place. This small cozy town is very welcoming and there are elevators leading to the forest where the walking trails can be found. However, the weather was not in our favor during our stay and the temperature was pretty cold for long walks.

After we arrived in the hotel Hackers Grand Hotel Bad Ems, that has to be ordered separately, we ate at the local restaurant and the next day in the morning went for a personal appointment with the doctor. Firstly, the pulse was taken for determination of the main dosha that is responsible for all processes in the body. There are 3 types of doshas: vata, pita and kafa. They are essential for all processes in the body: assimilation, maintenance of health, formation, and disintegration of tissues, elimination of decay products, mental states, emotions: fear, anger, greed, understanding, love empathy and others. So based on our individual nature the procedures were assigned.

The core of our daily food would be vegetables. All food will be prepared on oils and each procedure started with “abyanki”. Breakfast, that I have skipped, consisted of porridge and soaked dried fruits. Before every lunch, we would get something sweet due to the belief that the brain will receive a message of glucose income and become less hungry. Mainly choice of rice and quinoa. Dinner was served usually with soups. Here we would also get a menu for the next day.  In case of hunger we were allowed to eat crisp bread.

Throughout the day we would have to drink very hot water. In addition, when prescribed by the doctor, you should be waiting at the door with a thermos for “Am Pachan” at 7 AM. Here you will be served a special cleansing drink and maybe ghee.  However, the absence of a standard waiting room for procedures caused a lot of inconveniences: only 2 chairs available and constant wind discomfort contributed to catching a cold.

As I have mentioned in the beginning, the minimum stay is 10 days. You should be prepared after the 5th day you will be given castor oil and it will become your laxative day). One day after you will be prescribed another 3 enemas. In addition, after a week (7 days) you will receive extra enemas, they call them “basti”, the first one is oily, the second is strong antitoxins and the third one is oily again. The oil will continue working for another 10 days and it is essential to keep the diet for another 2 weeks at least. That will accelerate the weight loss process. We were also given a bunch of vitamins to take as the diet supplementary.

As a result, my friend and I lost 3 kg (about 6 pounds) each. However, I was not able to conquer my sleeping disorder, but there more still to come. Moreover, authentic Ayurveda treatments in Germany with emphasis on high-class Panchakarma-treatment was a great experience overall. Do detox, stay tuned, be happy)!

New York, New York, every time new!

Dear Reader,

Being a true New Yorker for many years I have moved last year and now when coming back I realize how much I miss its spirit. New York is never boring and every time new! It is a city of enormous life energy and change, the place where past, present, and future are integrated into a reality that is so loved by many. Young generations fall in love with NY from the first time and nearly everyone, who I met dreams to come here for the first time or again in the future. In fact, once you see NY, they want to return again and again will be born in your heart.

This time I have not been in NY for more than 3 months and there are 2 things that truly amazed me. The first object is an amazing Hudson Yards real estate development that was completed in the mid March of this year. I have heard that it is one of the biggest creations in last 80 years in New York after the Rockefellers Center and its total construction was estimated at $25 billion. According to Stephen Ross, the main developer of this colossal project, it is – “A museum of architecture with a whole new way of life with everything you want at your doorstep”.

Interesting facts about Hudson Yards: it was built above the Metropolitan Transportation Authority rail yards on the West Side of Manhattan; it consists of 2 office towers and multiple shopping malls, restaurants with famous cooks and other dining facilities, hotels, apartments and residential building with separate entries for wealthy and average income renters. The main attractions of the architectural composition are Shed and the Vessel. The first one is the arts center that was sponsored by the city for half a billion and the second is of unusual space form 2,500 climbable and 150 foot-high structure that was built for $200 million.

Another outstanding spectrum of NY is its cultural power.  Signing up and purchasing the tickets for the art exhibition was just enough to appear on the waitlist. Jean-Michel Basquiat, a mix of Haitian and Puerto Rican heritage was born in NY in the 60s. Jean started his artist adventure from the graffiti. Further, his energetic paintings full of black cultural heroes with distinctive visual language gained him professional art recognition during the 80th. An outstanding fact is that the exhibition started on March 6th – May 15th, however, everything was sold out. To me, this high demand for arts represents the rebirth of cultural values.

For the New Yorkers this solo exhibition of Jean-Michel Basquiat adds a great value to the cultural heritage. The celebration of origin and in the memory of artist the new space has been chosen carefully. It is located at 421 East 6th Street and occupies a century-old building that in the past served as the home and studio of famed artist Walter De Maria from the mid-1980s until his death in 2013. Richard Gluckman of Gluckman Tang Architects is working on renovation to create a 16,000-square-foot building that features 7,000 square feet of exhibition space arrayed across four floors. The project includes two new gardens adjacent to the structure and a landscaped roof terrace.

The exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Foundation Louis Vuitton and coordinated by Brant Foundation founder Peter M. Brant and Dr. Dieter Buchhart. They brought together Basquiat’s most important masterworks from the Brant Collections as well as from international museums and private collections to this exhibition. Dr. Buchhart says, “The retrospective will show Basquiat as a resolutely contemporary artist who created a foretaste of our Internet society by using cut-and-paste sampling from his surroundings.  With the astonishing radicalness of his artistic practice, Basquiat renewed the concept of art with enduring impact.”  According to the Brant Foundation: “Basquiat has been a cornerstone of the East Village art scene for decades, and to bring his work back to the neighborhood that inspired it is a great privilege,” says Brant. “Our family is thrilled to launch The Brant Foundation’s New York space with an artist who is central to the collection, and above all to share his legacy with the community that was fundamental in shaping it.”

I personally was amazed by this “surrealistic” approach of Basquiat and spent a lot of time with my friends figuring the motives, questioning the meaning and enjoying the “comic” art of Jean-Michel. I would highly recommend you to visit both attractions in NY, that will change your mind and give you a room to dream about the space. Be happy, travel the world, love yourself!

St. Barts/Barths: one of the Heavens’ drops on Earth

Dear Reader,

I believe that the most efficient therapy and action you can take is to get out of your comfort zone to explore yourself and the world from other perspectives. Being a doer rather than a dreamer my lifestyle is traveling.  This experience does not only widen and refreshes the mind by showing the magnitude, the power, the strength of Terra and beauty of difference. It also assists in discovering new shades and places as a part of the whole.

Today, I would like to share one of my favorite places on Earth, which is loved by celebrities and still unknown to many. There are several reasons for that and the first one starts with the name. It was confusing to me, when I came here 10 years ago for the first time, how to actually call the place due to the multiple name versions. According to Wikipedia Saint Barthélemy officially the Territorial collectivity of Saint-Barthélemy (French: Collectivité territoriale de Saint-Barthélemy), called Ouanalao by the native people, is an overseas collectivity of France in the West Indies.   The island’s name often abbreviated to St-Barth in French for locals, and St. Barths or St. Barts for English speakers and the last is the most comfortable version for me.

A bit of history:

Saint Barthélemy was for many years a French commune forming part of Guadeloupe, which is an overseas region and department of France. In 2003, the island voted in favor of secession from Guadeloupe in order to form a separate overseas collectivity (COM) of France. The collectivity is one of four territories among the Leeward Islands in the northeastern Caribbean that comprise the French West Indies, along with Saint MartinGuadeloupe (200 kilometers (120 miles) southeast), and Martinique. It is the only Caribbean island that was a Swedish colony for any significant length of time; Guadeloupe was under Swedish rule only briefly at the end of the Napoleonic Wars. Symbolism from the Swedish national arms, the Three Crowns, still appears in the island’s coat of arms.

Geography:

Saint Barts is a volcanic island fully encircled by shallow reefs. It has an area of 25 square kilometers (9.7 square miles) and a population of 9,625 (January 2015 estimate). Its capital is Gustavia, which also contains the main harbor to the island.

The island lies about 35 kilometers (22 miles) southeast of St. Martin and north of St. KittsPuerto Rico is 240 kilometers (150 miles) to the west in the Greater Antilles.

Getting to the tropical paradise retreat needs detailed planning due to the absence of the direct flights unless you are coming by private jet or yacht. From New York one can travel by Jet Blue to St. Martin and from Paris – to St. Martin. I personally travel through Puerto Rico due to the visa convenience and it is just one flight from there.

Location :

I would say that the energy of the exclusiveness of the island is rather simple and natural so-called “lassez-fare” Caribbean lifestyle. The language, cuisine, and culture, however, are distinctly French. Moreover, this amazing small and cozy place has EVERYTHING one would ever wish to have for natural and comfortable escape. What I personally love about St. Barts?

Heaven-like nature, crystal blue-green water and white sand clean with well-maintained beaches.

The same time zone as New York makes it easy to adopt. Amazing climate, always fresh wind calms the body and brings a pleasant feel.

Along with enjoying picturesque nature, one has everything the soul, mind, and body demands. Like a great range of shopping facilities including luxury, nigh life & great events, amazing restaurants, beaches, and hotels!

I believe that St. Barts is definitely one of the best places on Earth you want to be, I come here at least once a year, sometimes up to 3 times for 1-2 weeks. I would highly recommend you to experience this drop of Heaven!

Automotive Haute Couture -Bugatti La voiture noir debut in Geneva

Dear Reader,

In the 89th Geneva International Motor Show hosted from March 5-15th, 2019 at Palexpo in Geneva was hot! Representation of the future preserving the history reflected in representation of 157 World and European Premiers. Based on the official website of the exhibition more than 660 000 visitors registered for the 11 days event and more than 900 cars were exposed.

However, Bugatti has been definitely the headliner this year again. Italian artist family brand managed to differentiate themselves from others mainly with business and technical background. The artistic approach to design mixed with technical innovation formed the comparative advantage and Bugatti icon. The well-known slogan “Art, Forme, Technique” is the core of the company’s philosophy and success.  The company was formed 110 years ago in Molsheim (Alsace, France), where it is still placed today. In 1998 Bugatti joined the Volkswagen Group and has about 300 employers. Similar success it had at the 86th IGMS when presenting Bugatti Chiron and at the 88th by coming up with an advanced version of Chiron Sport. Limited addition of 500 is available at the company’s headquarters in Molsheim.

Long awaited creation was presented on the March 5th La Voiture Noire the most expensive new car Ever. These luxury customized “toy” seem too expensive to have and impossible to take the eyes from. The technology and advancements went so far that it looks just perfect! The full-width LED brake light strip makes the unique hypercar seem wider than it already is and just below illumination sign of “Bugatti” reminds you what you’re looking at. At the front, the horseshoe grille is more pronounced than ever before and above it the sleek LED headlights extend on top of the wheel arches. Handcrafted carbon fiber body reminds of the special Divo model but is of the exclusively new level. Moreover, it has the same quad-turbo W16 8.0-liter engine with 1,500 horsepower and 1,600 Newton-meters (1,180 pound-feet) of torque as the Chiron, Chiron Sport, and Divo.

La Voiture Noire – is the reminiscence of the icon and the reflection of pioneering spirit, passion for perfection and proof of redefined limits. In the past, those values were embraced in Type 57 SC Atlantic – pure elegance and sophistication. According to professionals, La Voiture Noire is a modern interpretation of Jean Bugatti’s (eldest son of the founder Ettore Bugatti) personal type 57 SC Atlantic that got lost during the World War II – today is the most expensive car ever sold! The president of Bugatti, Stephan Winkelmann said that the car was sold to “Bugatti enthusiast” for $18.68M (including taxes). The mystery of the premier that no one could see the interior of the car. It is hidden in the official gallery too. There is an assumption based on the price that the cabin has considerable changes compared to Chiron and Divo. It is obvious, BUGATTI is bringing the speed, technology, luxury and aesthetics of an icon into a new era. However, it is better one time to see that 100 times to hear. Enjoy the video and the photos of a manifesto of the BUGATTI aesthetic and a piece of automotive haute couture!

IWD: Chopard & amfAR

Dear Reader,

Famous jewelry and watchmaking Swiss House – Chopard, the last independent family-owned business, presented new jewelry collection exhibition in Courchevel, France. The exclusive preview took place from Friday 8th to Monday 11th March by appointment only.  Haute Joaillerie Collection consisted of vast luxury jewelry creations. Courchevel: ski time, luxury hotels and good restaurants!

Taking time out to enjoy the beauty of Mother Nature is one of the best ways to spend your free time. It avails the opportunity to connect with your inner self, relax body, spirit and soul. As well as it serves as a great networking place, where you can meet old and new people from different works of life.

There are so many places around the world which offer these life-changing experiences, where you can unwind, have fun, relax, and make new friends. However, my favorite is the luxurious Courchevel resort, which is located in the country of France.

The composition of the resort is layered depending on the height. It is made up of five towns namely: the Courchevel 1650 (also known as The Moriond, La Tania, Courchevel 1300 (also known as The Le Praz), Courchevel 1550 and of course Courchevel 1850 which has now been renamed as the Courchevel.

SKIING

If you are a lover of skiing, then Courchevel is a first-rate ski resort, which has a variety of pistes for skiers of different categories: the beginners, intermediates and advanced skiers. The Courchevel resort has a wide snow terrain, which ranges from 1350m to 2738m altitude.

The beginner skiers have the Jardin Alpin bubble and Verdons bubble areas all to themselves, without having a run in with other well-knowledgeable skiers. The intermediate skiers have Biollay and Pralong area (which has a mixture of red and blue snow pistes),Folyeres, and the Creux to do their thing.

While the masters of the skiing game have the challenging Grand Couloir, the Saulire, and the Suisse, to have the skiing of their life.

For first time skiers, Courchevel has three ski schools, where you can learn how to ski excellently within the duration of your stay. These ski schools have about700 instructors, over 200 well-spread pistes, and lots of ski lifts which are available and efficient in transporting skiers across the Courchevel hills.

HOTELS, FOOD, SHOPPING AND MORE

Asides from the skiing fun, there is other off the pitch fun side of Courchevel: there are superb shopping, accommodation, and other places. From the hotels I would recommend staying at Cheval Blanc https://www.chevalblanc.com/en/maison/courchevel/ hotel is not available for kids. However outstanding spa and best gastronomic restaurant (very limited space though only 5 tables, book in advance) make it a desired place to stay in. In case you are staying with kids, I would recommend K2 hôtel https://www.lek2palace.com/fr/, it has a lot of playrooms. I would also take into consideration Hotel Les Airelles https://lesairelles.airellescollection.com/en/home/ – it is the best family & friends hotel. As well as it has a magnificent lunch buffet, amazing interior, and the best service!

Courchevel has lots of simple restaurants, which offer a variety of meals from pizzas to local French Italian, British, American, and European cuisines. I would recommend Nammos Resto https://www.nammos.gr/courchevel1850when you are in the mountains, mainly for lunch.  There are also pubs and bars for men and women who love the high and funky life

Nightlife in Courchevel is total fun, as you will experience the best of your specialty there. If you are the quiet solo drinker or a loud party animal, Courchevel has pubs and bars such as Funky Fox, Caterail, Le Tremplin, and Mangeoire, that will cater to your nightly needs.

Shopping in Courchevel is a social and luxurious affair, with lots of stores housing lots of famous and trendy designer products. You will find the likes of Fendi, Chanel, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and Dior there.  If you are aiming to shop luxuriously and fashionably, then Courchevel will never let you down with her high-class stores for accessories, ski-wears, shoes, and casuals.

Other fascinating features that can be enjoyed in Courchevel include Ice skating, bowling, Movies at the cinema, Spas and Yoga exercises, Snowmobiling, Paragliding, and lots of other fun-filled activities that would make your vacation a fun-filled and memorable one.

Think of Paris in winter, and think of Courchevel!

PFW headline: the last creation of Karl Lagerfeld …

Dear Reader,

This March, Paris Fashion Week had a memorable taste to its prêt-a-porter Autumn 2019/Winter 2020 collection. So-called “last show” of CHANEL from Karl Lagerfeld finalized the Fashion Week in Paris. Grand Palais as a distant mountain village with multiple Swiss-style chalets was silent. The true legend of the XXth and XXIst century fashion history has accomplished his mission. Rows of wooden chalets with smoking pipes, artificial snow and mountains created the atmosphere of winter and gave a feeling of universe tranquility. The highest rank models, celebrities and other VIPs came to see the last true ambassador of French elegance creation. Every project of Karl Lagerfeld has his own particular touch full of meaning, style, and beauty.

This new collection was the accumulation of everything: the pats, the present and the future of the fashion Chanel House. That was represented by the extreme, from the favorite shades of the iconic tweed suits to modern down-padded coats in ultra-bright and rich colors. This collection was created in collaboration with the successor of Lagerfeld, Virginie Viar, who had been his right hand for over 30 years and introduced a lot of iconic things of the brand. In the future season, the absolute leader from Chanel will be tweed with a goose footprint in different shades.

However, the prevailing silhouette is oversized: flared trousers, long coats, down jackets and capes. Among the mostly dark color palettes, there was a stream of tender, completely white images, including feather mini-skirts resembling snowballs, in which the ambassador Penelope Cruz and Lagerfeld’s favorite Kaya Gerber appeared. Spectacular lapels, voluminous knit tails, fur boots, pearls, embroidery from glass beads and gold vinyl are in the line full of remarkable details worthy of the level of haute couture.

The magnificence and perfection of the clothes reflected the skills and talents of its departed creative director. I believe anyone who knows about CHANEL heard the name of Karl Lagerfeld associated with it. The genius of fashion and style, he used to call himself “the brand”. Mr. Lagerfeld was highly recognizable and respected fashion influencer due to his talent and devotion of his life to mode. At the age of 14, he came to Paris from his hometown Hamburg with the mission of devoting his life to the creation of the cloth and he accomplished it on the 19th of February, 2019. His story is amazing and full of important events. Before becoming creative director of Chanel House he also has worked with Balmain for 3 years and he got the job by winning the “Best Coat Design” (1954).  The logo of Fendi was created by Lagerfeld and he cooperated with the brand actually longer with Chanel (50 years) and many others. Along with being professional of high rank, he was also a diverse persona, whose interests ranged from reading to creating art pieces and photography.

Karl Lagerfeld left an indelible mark in the history of Chanel and in the history of fashion in general. This was confirmed by the tearful, prolonged nonstop applauses during the final release of the models for the song of David Bowie “Heroes”. Although the Hero of the event will not come out anymore his steps in the world’s fashion history and our hearts will live forever!

Paris: Haute Couture 2019 & unknown brands

Dear Reader,

As usual, the new cycle of the entire fashion-industry started in the heart of style – Paris. High Fashion Week of Spring/Summer 2019 season took place from the 21st till the 24th of January. This “holy fashion event” is organized by Parisian High Fashion Syndicate. It is held twice a year in the four last days of January and July. High fashion Week (HFW) is the top level in the fashion industry. It is one of the mostly desired events of the celebrities, designers, influencers, brands and fashion lovers.

The remarkable fact of HFW is that about 70% of representations are made by hand and models are sewn in one piece only.  The average cost per piece is several hundred thousand American dollars. Therefore the haute couture collections find their owners mainly among the brightest stars and/or the richest population of the modern world.

Moreover, the most famous fashion houses and best designers represent their collections here. Being a regular guest and true fan of the fashion, I wanted to switch the attention and introduce so-called “new names”. Those brands have already received significant recognition, rewards and loyal customers.

On the 21st of January Flora Miranda from Antwerp has raised the question about the future of technology in beauty and fashion. Intelligent machines as the basis of modern production process. Demonstration of the Deep Web collection dedicated to the idea of “learning machines”. It was combined with an informational presentation by Swiss artist Simone C. Niquille and moderated by American internet artist Signe Pierce. This unusual and thorough work was a pleasure to see.

Celia Kritharioti (Celia Kritharioti) is a fashion designer from Athens and the owner of the oldest Greek fashion house founded in 1906. On January 22, Celia presented her new immaculate spring/summer collection. Magical attraction of her show was a distinctive feature of dresses created by the designer. Among the muses of the brand were Claudia Schiffer, Leticia Casta and Natalia Vodianova.

On January 23 for the first time in Paris the show of the Spanish brand Yolancris took place. Yolancris was founded in 2005 by sisters Yolanda and Kristina. The brand specializes in wedding and evening dresses and is represented in more than 30 countries around the world. Know singers Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Shakira, Lady Gaga, as well as bridesmaids: Chloe Kardashian, Courtney Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner at the wedding at Kim Kardashian and Kanye managed to “light up” in Yolancris.

To end up, I just wanted to share with you that the duration of the catwalks lasts no longer than 30 minutes. The preparation that takes months and sometimes years passes by models so fast that sometimes it is impossible to see the details and understand what is going on. That is why literally everyone is taking videos on their phone, including me. See videos for Paris HFW in my Instagram!
